I started writing when I was a child, literally from the time I could make sentences. My older sisters had read to me and I learned to read very young, so it was a natural extension that I wanted to create my own stories. Usually involving horses!
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
My latest novel is The Touchstone of Raven Hollow (Secrets of Roseville Book 3), a paranormal romance set in a fictional town and forest in southern Tennessee. It’s set during the week of Thanksgiving and features a witch who keeps her powers a secret until her soul mate discovers the truth about her abilities. I really had fun writing this book, as it alludes to Poe’s poem “The Raven” and includes a flock, or unkindness, of ravens. Learning about the traits and characteristics of ravens proved fascinating!
Who designed the covers?
The covers for all three of the books in the Secrets of Roseville series were designed by Jaycee DeLorenzo of Sweet ‘N Spicy Designs. I love what’s she’s done to make them unique and beautiful!
How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
I based the forest on the description of an actual state forest in Tennessee, but I had not visited the real place until after the book was published. My description of the setting was about 90% accurate with only a few little details not exactly the same. But it’s fiction, right? Also, Tara’s decision to step away from Grant to let her sister have him, despite how much she cares for him, is based on my own experience with a guy I liked but my best friend staked her claim first. But things worked out in my favor in the end since he ended up my hubby. Other than that, the rest of the story is made up.
What book are you reading now?
I’m reading Diana Gabaldon’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes (Outlander Book 5).
Is there one person past or present you would meet and why?
Possibly because I’m reading her book, but I’d love to have a long chat with Diana Gabaldon about her research and sources and her approach to writing historical fiction.
If any of your books was made into a film who would you like to play the lead?
I would love to have Sandra Bullock play Samantha if Samantha’s Secret ever became a movie.
Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?
My website is www.bettybolte.com and my blog is www.bettybolte.net.
Currently on my blog, I’m adapting historical recipes to modern tastes (mine and my hubby’s, at least!) on Tuesdays through October. It’s interesting and challenging to work through, too!
