Maddie Chester is determined to leave her hometown of Gansett Island, a place that has brought her only bad memories and ugly rumors. Then she’s knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy’s Resort Hotel by Gansett’s “favorite son,” Mac McCarthy. He’s back in town to help his father with preparations to sell the family resort and has no intention of staying long. When Mac accidentally sends Maddie flying over the handlebars, badly injuring her, he moves in to nurse her back to health and help care for her young son. He soon realizes his plans for a hit-and-run visit to the island are in serious jeopardy, and he just may be “maid” for love.
Maddie is a single mother working hard to take care of her son while hoping one day leave the island and start fresh somewhere new. Maddie has been constantly let down by the men in her life. It started with her dad, but got exceedingly worse with her first high school boyfriend who made living on the island almost unbearable for Maddie. Many of the people on the island believe the rumors about Maddie and either don't acknowledge her or are rude. She spends her days working and spending time and taking care of her son Thomas. Luckily for Maddie, her sister lives right next door and watches Thomas during the day in exchange for Maddie watching the kids is her sisters daycare for a couple of hours in the afternoon. This is Maddies daily routine until the day Mac McCarthy steps into her path and changes her life forever.
Mac McCarthy family is well known on Gansett Island. His parents have owned and operated a resort there for many years. Mac started dreaming of escaping that island at a young age. After turning 18 he went off to college and ended up making a life for himself in Florida. Mac has only been home a few times since leaving and he makes sue those visits are short. Mac comes back to the island to help his dad fix up the resort and for personal reason. He already plans on not staying there any longer then necessary. Everything changes the day Maddie crashes into his life. Mac has never felt this way about a woman before. Unfortunately because of Maddies past hurts it is not easy getting her to open herself up to him. But now that Mac has found something he never knew he wanted, he will fight to get and keep it.
I really enjoyed this book from the beginning. The author wrote in a way that pulled me in and kept me enthralled until the end. I would have read this in one day, but sleep and work got in the way. It was really that good for me. There was love, romance, laughter, heartache and more in every part of this book. Marie was able to pull off a insta-love story that was believable. There were some of the secondary characters I wanted to smack and others that I loved. Madie had a hard time opening up to Mac, but he was persistent and the outcome was beautiful. Did I mention there are both steamy and swoon worthy moments? Well there are plenty of both. I cant wait to read the rest of this series. Hopefully we will see more of Big Mac, since he was one of my favorite people in the book.
